Toronto Named Best ‘Convention City’ In Canada

April 17, 2008 – 10:03 am

Today there’s some good news for Toronto, Canada. The bustling city was recently named as the best
city to hold a convention in Canada.

Watkins Research Group Meeting and Convention Planners is behind the study that found the home of the CN tower rules supreme for business meetings.

“Competition for high-value meeting business is more global than ever,” said David Whitaker, President and CEO of Tourism Toronto. “Meeting planners recognize that Toronto is well-positioned as an international meeting place and the city’s untold story is gaining wider profile.”

In order to live up to the high expectations of business travelers, Toronto has done a number of upgrades and expansions. Metro Toronto Convention Centre completed a $4-million upgrade to the pre-function space outside Constitution Hall, Direct Energy Centre is planning a major expansion to create a Conference Centre with 58,500 square feet of ballrooms and 22,500 square feet of meeting rooms, Toronto Congress Centre reopened in January after undertaking a massive expansion to double its exhibition space to more than one million square feet. International Centre is adding an $11.5-million Conference Centre in summer 2008 to enhance its existing half-million square feet of exhibit and meeting facilities.

Toronto can be reached by air, rail and car. Mississauga is a nearby suburb that’s within an hour drive.
